Parents, please remember to help your child with their homework each day. Following is a schedule, so you know what to expect each day:
Monday - New sorts are sent home. Students are to cut out the cards and practice sorting them. First by sound, then by pattern. Students will be tested on Friday on whether or not they have learned the pattern. Words on the test will be different than the words practiced during the week.
Tuesday - Fluency practice. Students are to read the passage 3 different times. Each time they are to start at the beginning and have 1 minute to read as many words as they can. Count the total of words read each time and write it at the bottom of the page.
Wednesday - Math. This is a review of what we have been learning in class. The answers are on the back so you can check your child's work when they are done (or so you can check the answer ahead of time to be sure you are pointing the in the right direction).
Friday - Reading logs. Reading logs are sent home in Friday folders each week. Students should be reading 20-23 minutes each night. There is space on the log for students or parents to write a brief summary (retell) of what was read. This is also a spot for parents to jot down any a-ha's or concerns that you've noticed while reading with your child. These logs get turned in on Friday mornings.
